Everybody loves a great deal no matter what time of year it is. With Christmas slowly passing by there will be some awesome after Christmas deals to be had on refurbished laptops and desktops. Finding the right refurbished laptop or desktop for yourself is not a hard thing. Most sites offer customer reviews of each product they sell and market which allows previous buyers to give present buyers an idea of what they are buying. It is always helpful to read those reviews before you make your decision. Infact I was also looking for a refurbished laptop for myself and I just came through “ElectroComputerWarehouse” and have found a great deal there. You can also check it. I am sure you will find a good one for you as well.

I needed a laptop for reading emails and using word at uni and thought getting a refurbished laptop would be my cheapest option. Finally bought a refurbished laptop from “ElectroComputerWarehouse” and the product id is “dell_latitude_d610_1.86_60GB”. And it is working very well.

Refurbished Netbooks Are the Best Cheapest Deals Ever Because cheap refurbished laptops or net-book does not mean that you buy a machine that can not work very well but in general is kind of cheap refurbished laptop computers that have been repaired or replaced parts that were damaged so that the laptop could work similar to other new laptops,but sold at a cheaper price. A good place to find cheap refurbished computers is online. I also bought a refurbished few months ago form “Electro Computer Warehouse” its so cheap and working well.

@Suki and @Leroy: The problem in your case was not the purchase of a refurbished netbook but the purchase of an item from a seemingly questionable company (I don’t now LaptopsDirect.com and will not comment on their business).

Even if you had to purchase a spanking brand new computer from a company that seems untrustworthy your unfortunate predicament would be the same unfrotunately.

How about trying to buy refurbs from solid retailers?

I too bought from laptopsdirect and the hard drive was broken. Been a nightmare getting refund too. Still waiting. I agree you should buy new, peace of mind and warranty with a reputable company.

Bought a refurbished netbook from LAPTOPSDIRECT.com and the hard drive was broken. Apparently they sell lots of refurbs but a little reaesrch will show you the complaints from customers. I would disagree with this article and advice you steer clear of them.

I agree that refurbished are good buys, if and only if, they are re-manufactured by the original manufacturer.

I’ve bought playstation system from Gamestop (EB games). They re-manufactured Sony Playstation, by having some tech fix them. The system last longer than 90 days, but after that it craped out. I can’t even sell it back as a used system to them because they said the seal is broken. They were the one that broke the seal and they won’t honor what they do.

Refurbished is always and unknown. The warranty is usually short. The issue that cause the previous return on the device you are purchasing is unknown to you, it could have been a simple fix or an intermittened problem that didn’t reoccur for the technician inspecting the device. There is a reason that these devices are lower cost than an original. As stated in the comments above make sure the savings justifies the risk….

I’ve baught refurbished stuff before, like a 1TB hard drive from Wester Digital… Actually two of them in that particular case, both worked fine and I still own them and they’re still kicking. Like others have stated, consider the source. Refurbs are not bad and you just need to do your homework before you jump the gun. Happy booking!

Refurbished netbooks aren’t always roses and sunshine. In particular I’d be wary of general dents and scratches, dead pixels, and the like. Really the refurb is only as good as the source. Some places back up their refurbs – some don’t.

I think your problem is with Newegg.com not with refurbished items. If you had researched refurbished laptops properly, you would have found out that there are stores that offer the full manufacturers warranty (contrary to what Allan mentioned). On top of that, it pays to go with a trusted brand like Toshiba or Asus. If you went out and bought a refurbished Acer on the other hand then i can imagine why you’ve become a disgruntled customer.

All you really need to do is make sure you research before you buy. Find a good product (which this one obviously is) and a good vendor with good return policies.

Thanks for the idea. I have been wanting to buy my wife one but could not justify a new one if she does not use it. This is the perfect middle ground.

I went through a faze when I was buying a lot of refurbs from sites like NewEgg and I would say about 90% of them had unresolved issues that were intermittent.

Since they were refurbs I could not return them either. I still believe you can get a great deal but you need to research before you buy. Make sure you know (atleast) the leading cuase of errors other consumers reported when returning their machines.

Definitely DO NOT buy noise canceling head phones or similar technology that is relatively new (the generic circuitry is anyway) or if the products are being returned for unknown / intermittent issues. If a tech gets their hands on a machine that seems to work do you think they will spend all day to track down a faulty diode that occasionally kills the internal memory and causes the machine to crash. Not when he has to fix 60 machines a day or be fired.

I just want to say refurb machines are not the answer to all your dreams. DO NOT buy it for a mission critical use or if you are about to go on a trip through Europe and need something to write your blog on the road because if you do have an unfixed error you will be lugging around a small sleek plastic brick until you get home and are able to return it. In the hopes that the next refurb is really fixed – and yes I have returned a refurb lemon to recieve a refurb lemon.

It was the last straw for me. I buy only new now and if it is something I think I NEED (like my mp3 player when I am on a trip) I get a warranty and might even try to pick it up at a nation wide store that will exchange it – in what ever city I happen to break down in.

oh, great write up too.

i was kinda wondering if refurbished was the route to go, since the low prices made me think there is something wrong, but reading this changes my mind. I will probably soon buy a dell netbook refurbished.

if you look at amazon.com, the refurbished netbooks are cheaper than used ones, and that made it sound too good to be true.. hopefully not.

almost a year ago, I got an iPod Touch 8gb refurb. for only $200

it was great, and just like new since they put a new casing on it, but it did come in a different box.

i got a dead strip on it unfortunately, so i sent it to apple under warranty and they just sent me a new one.

my apple story…

i am very inclined to buy a refurb. netbook though from dell. They have some of the best deals I’ve seen, and dell is my probably my favorite computer company besides apple.

You left out that you get only a marginal warranty with a refurbished netbook. It’s not a full warranty as you would get on a regular one.
