@ Jojon

Yes, it is possible to view on an external LCD screen.
Future hardware updates are not possible with some of the netbooks. Some don't have touchscreen. Acer and Asus are the two market leaders in netbooks sales. Are the netbooks able to run for complete 8 hours of single charge?

I am just wondering if netbook can run MS Office applications fast enough (Word, excel, powerpoint) and use webcam for chatting, also youtube downloading. I presume the 7-9 inch screen should not be a problem as it can use external USB LCD, can't it? Thanks.

One day, I will write a post on why exactly it's impossible to subjectively rate netbooks and come up with the best ever from a performance perspective.

I think this post should at least set forth a list of the top 5 possible netbooks and point out the advantages of each. I, for example, like the HP 2133 because it is slightly wider than most 8.9' screen netbooks making for a more comfortable keyboard and it also has a aluminum shell making for a nicer looking case. The Acer Aspire One is also slightly wider and has a more comfortable keyboard besides having more sellers offer it, Best Buy, Circuit City than the HP. Asus, which should be credited with inventing the netbook as we know it today makes some great 8.9" netbooks which have features that help them stand out. They offer both the Atom processor common to most netbooks as well as a celeron which came before the atom. Their 8.9" netbooks have a small bezel around the screen and the keyboard is definitely useable (I have one). Next would probably be the Lenovo Ideapads which came first in a 10" and now a 8.9" screen and have nice looks and size and have been reviewed to be the best netbooks available. The Dell Mini 9 is also a compelling choice as it has all the best features of most netbooks and the looks of a common dell laptop which in some eyes is very nice.

In essence, 1GB Ram, wireless G, a webcam, 8.9" screen, good battery life and an Atom processor is probably what is most common to most netbooks. Variations on these specs is what could make someone choose one over the next!!! A bigger screen, a wider keyboard, a nicer looking case, an expresscard slot, a SSD drive or a higher capacity conventional one are what you should place most attention to!!!

I am currently tracking prices to find a new netbook which has to have:
-8.9" screen
-60GB or 120GB hard drive
-1 GB Ram
-Windows XP
With these features I can totally replace my current laptop for most tasks (the Asus Netbook I have has Linux and 20GB SSD), a Dell Inspiron 700m which has Win XP, 60GB Hard Drive and a 12.1" screen.
