I own an Acer Aspire one D255 and soon after buying it I added the second GB of ram. I love it for what it was disinged for. It is very portable and does what I need. I also have an Asus notebook that is much larger heavier and faster. It also does what it was designed for too. I own a Toshiba Sattilite that is very fast and I do most of my photoghaphy work on it and the new Asus. Get was does the job and feels good to you. In six months it will be out of date so in the long run it really does not matter. Get what you like the first time around; what is important to you looks, preformance, and or cost?

Huh! Reply ............

Well I have owned 2 Acers over the years and yes I run a company which assembles machines including the best gaming desktops. So, I know little bit about hardware maybe not as much as Huh! here. Acers are solid laptops and their pricing is aggressive. All laptops are made by one of the few companies in Taiwan like Compal and Quanta computers, why the hell would you want to pay more for a brand logo?

For Huh!'s information Acer is presently the world leader in laptop sales, HP is the leader in overall computer sales. If their products were so bad then would so many people be using them? I think my friend you have used too many of those overpriced gimicky laptops without really thinking why you are paying so much for nothing.

My first Acer Travelmate, your so called value brand product lasted 5 years and still going strong. I have travelled all over the world with it, no problems, zero nada. My extremely overpriced Dell XPS 13.3" crashed in 2 months (I still own a latitude d420) and the asus brand you are so excited about .. well the EEPC froze up for one my friends in 2 weeks. He changed it to get an HP 311.

Don't trash any company and generalize them without knowing the whole story. There is a reason why big companies become big. Acer/Dell/HP/Lenovo/Toshiba all have their pros and cons. But don't generalize.

Jeez Huh, did an Acer kill your mother?

This post has a good point. I don't like the Acer netbooks much at all. But they're so simple. You just go and buy one in a pretty color, and that's it.

Also, they have great distribution. I got in Best Buy, I go in Office Max, Staples, Fry's, and what do I see? Acers. Acers everywhere.

How about this: Acer makes terrible products, filled with value brand components each having a good chance going *poof* in the first year of use.

Asus is a god among computer hardware manufacturers, frolicking in silicon valley with the likes of Intel, ATI, Corsair, nVidia, etc..., and makes a rock solid product (Asus mainboards are arguably the best when it comes to desktop builds).

Acer can afford to sell their trash for nothing, since it isn't worth the cardboard box it comes in, and the know-nothing masses of idiots (like yourself, as far as I can tell from your article) gobble it up.

Show me one person who knows anything about computer hardware that owns an Acer product and swears by it, and I will show you someone who is either too embarrassed to admit they f'ed up, or someone who has seriously overestimated their computer hardware knowledge.

I feel like Asus dominates the netbook market. They just have so many different models. Its good in a sense, but sometimes they go a little overboard, especially with the new seashell models (3models that are all more or less identical)
