The press are still occasionally raising this story that the ipad is hitting netbook (and other small laptop) sales. I just don't buy it. The ipad is a great user experience for browsing the web and using apps, but it's definitely not a laptop replacement.

The few people I know who have shelled out a ridiculous amount of money for an ipad also have a laptop of some size. They have the ipad with them most of the time to catch up on news, check emails and generally surf the net, but still revert to the laptop if they need to do anything more substantial like write documents, create flyers, do homework, etc.

Personally, I can't see how I could justify spending so much money on something that delivers such as small part of my computing needs.

Steve Jobs made the mistake of believing that netbooks are really just for surfing the Internet.

They're not. They're small but fully functional comptuters with great battery life and a bargain price. That's the entire point. If you take out huge swaths of netbook functionality it ceases to become a netbook competitor.

I'm sure that iPad will sell well due to Apple's incredible branding, but it won't have anything to do with the netbook market.

If only this IPad carries a video calling camera ( & hopefully a main 5 megapixel camera), real bluetooth connectivity & multitasking, real MS office package ( even by 3rd party ) it could be on top of netbooks, it would be awesome, and i belive this is not difficult! or else they don't want IPad to compete with their ordiniary notebook series.
